Thanks for the post! The era of consumer customization is definitely already here, and it is amazing that we have technology that makes it possible. But at the same time, it makes me wonder how far should a service be customized and in which services. For example, when it comes to news, it could be quite dangerous to be exposed to only certain types of information based on my taste, as it may lead to information bias.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, news or information feeds being heavily customized can lead to dangerous outcomes. We already see that with Facebook and Twitter dividing the USA in many ways. Unfortunately, ad revenue and efficient targeting demands this, perhaps there is an innovative way to tackle it.

There doesn't seem to be a strong regulatory body to control the tech companies in the US, except for China - who are being increasingly aggressive against their homegrown companies Alibaba and Tencent!

Yes, there is no strong regulatory body to control tech giants except the Chinese government. In fact, both of them share a common problem in the sense that delivered information is heavily affected by financial/political benefits. And it seems the trend will continue for quite some time. In this era, people will need to learn how to understand the overall picture behind the scene and look through the intention of shown information. I hope an innovative way can tackle this issue soon.

I really hope so too. Else it is very possible for a "Black Mirror" series scenario to play out.
